Avianca Airlines To Launch Three Seasonal U.S.-Central America Routes

Colombia’s Avianca Airlines will open seasonal service on three routes from U.S. cities to Central American destinations in December.

The northern hemisphere winter season routes will be operated with A320 aircraft configured to carry 180 passengers.

Starting Dec. 11, the airline will open 3X-weekly service between New York John F. Kennedy Airport and San Pedro Sula, Honduras. Starting Dec. 13, Avianca will launch 4X-weekly flights between Oakland, California and San Salvador, El Salvador. Also on that date, the carrier will begin 3X-weekly flights between Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD) and Guatemala City, Guatemala.

Jamie Rhee, commissioner of the Chicago Department of Airports, says in a statement: “As the best-connected airport on the globe, O’Hare provides tremendous new connection opportunities between Guatemala City and hundreds of destinations across North America, Europe and Asia, and provides a convenient new option for travel for the hundreds of thousands of Chicagoland residents with ties to Central America.”

Avianca says ORD “is an important destination in our network [and] is not just home of one of the largest Guatemalan communities in the United States, but also a top tourist destination for Latin American travelers.”
