Body Found on Maine Central Institute Campus Confirmed to Be Pittsfield Firefighter

PITTSFIELD, Maine — First responders in the Pittsfield area have shared tributes to a firefighter whose body was found on the Maine Central Institute campus Tuesday.

Pittsfield town manager Jacob Gran confirmed with NEWS CENTER Maine Wednesday that the body found Tuesday was that of Pittsfield firefighter Zach Noble.

Noble’s body was found by the school’s maintenance team when they reported for work around 9 a.m. Tuesday, Maine Central Institute spokesperson Brayden Rollins said in a news release. The maintenance team called 911 and emergency services responded, according to the release.

Police have indicated there is no threat to the school community or campus, the release stated.

Maine Central Institute is a private academy and serves as the secondary school for the towns of Pittsfield, Burnham, and Detroit, Maine. The school’s enrollment includes day students from many additional Maine communities, and boarding students from six states and 23 countries, according to its website.

“This is a very tragic occurrence, and our thoughts and condolences are with the individual’s family,” Rollins said.

“It’s been a tough day for the Town of Pittsfield,” the town’s fire department said in a social media post Tuesday. “We lost one of our own today. Zach Noble you will be truly missed by all in the community and beyond.  Rest Easy. We got it from here.”

“The Fire and EMS community has lost a great man,” Pittsfield police said on social media. “Condolences go out to his family and all those that knew him.”

“This is tragic and heartbreaking news to share and we are all trying to process this,” Unity Ambulance said in a social media post. “Our heartfelt condolences go out to his family, friends, and colleagues in this extremely difficult time.”

The Pittsfield Police Department is investigating Noble’s death.
