Texas authorities mistakenly identify littered sex doll as corpse

A Texas investigation into the death of a mystery woman ended when officials realized her corpse was made of silicon.

The Harris County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call Wednesday afternoon from someone saying they found a dead body in a bag in woods in the northeast part of the county. Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said on Twitter that investigators suspected foul play was involved.

“False call on this one- upon closer inspection, not a body,” Gonzalez tweeted nearly two hours later. He added that the sheriff’s office waited for homicide detectives and Crime Scene Investigation to continue the investigation.

Investigators opened the bag and discovered what appeared to be a full-size woman’s body with the correct anatomy but with pliable skin. The body was later identified it as a sex doll, according to ABC 13.

Officers then noticed there was no foul smell coming from the body and called the medical examiner’s office who determined over video call that it could not be a human body because of the lack of decomposition, ABC 13 reported.

USA TODAY has reached out to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office for more information on how long it took for investigators to realize the body was fake.

Officials did not take the doll when clearing the crime scene, according to ABC 13. The TV station shared a photo of the doll which appears to be disfigured and wearing undergarments.
